Mark Urman is a highly established film industry executive who has made his mark in distribution, marketing, and production in both the independent and studio arenas.  For the past four years, Urman has headed up his own company, Paladin, a boutique distribution and marketing firm that has annually released over a dozen films, often in partnership with leading digital and DVD distributors including Starz, Image Entertainment, eOne, Fox International, Tribeca Films, and SnagFilms, among others.

Urman has served as Executive Producer on a number of acclaimed films including the Oscar-winning MONSTER’S BALL, and the Oscar-nominated documentaries, MURDERBALL, and WAR DANCE.

Prior to forming Paladin, Urman ran two highly successful independent distribution companies, Lionsgate (as Co-President, Lionsgate Releasing, 1997-2001), and THINKFilm, (as co-founder, Head of Theatrical, and President, 2001-2008).  Among the films he acquired and released are such notable titles as BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD, TAXI TO THE DARKSIDE, HALF NELSON, BORN INTO BROTHELS, THE ARISTOCRATS, AMORES PERROS, SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, THE RED VIOLIN, AMERICAN PSYCHO, DOGMA, GODS AND MONSTERS, and AFFLICTION, garnering a total of eighteen Oscar nominations and six Oscars.

Mark Urman groupshotUrman began his career in marketing at United Artists, where he eventually headed international publicity, and next worked at Columbia Pictures, where he headed marketing for their specialty division, Triumph Films, before graduating to Vice President of East Coast Publicity, a position he held for five years.  In 1989, he started the domestic division of the preeminent international movie PR firm, DDA, where he spearheaded a number of groundbreaking campaigns for such films as THE CRYING GAME, SECRETS AND LIES, SHINE, LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE, and THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE, AND HER LOVER, and represented such filmmakers as Roman Polanski, Bernardo Bertolucci, Paul Schrader, and Barbet Schroeder.
